Within a sociosemiotic theoretical framework, this doctoral research explores the Italian Deaf Community’s perspectives on Italian Sign Language (LIS) interpreting and translation services. Drawing on ethnographic principles, the project adopts inductive qualitative methods to document how Deaf users perceive the interpreter’s role, linguistic features in Italian-to-LIS interpreting and translation (e.g., mouthing), and the use of Video Remote Interpreting.
